Meet Grandma
Hi, I’m Luron. After teaching high school science for 25 years, We retired and moved to Oklahoma where we now spend our days raising cattle, chickens, goats, gardening, grandkids and building the homestead life I’ve always dreamed of. Through Homesteading with Grandma, I will share practical tips and lessons learned to help beginner homesteaders achieve their goals.
How I Got Here
After retiring from teaching, I traded the classroom for pastures, gardens, barns, animals, and a whole new kind of education.
We moved from Colorado to Oklahoma and began building our homestead. There was plenty to learn—fences needed fixing, gardens didn’t always cooperate, animals had minds of their own, and some plans worked much better on paper than they did in real life!
I’ve learned that homesteading isn’t about knowing everything before you begin. It’s about starting with what you have, learning as you go, and becoming a little more capable and self-sufficient along the way.
That’s one of the reasons I started Grandma’s Homesteading Help. After spending 25 years teaching science, teaching is still a big part of who I am. Now, instead of teaching in a classroom, I get to share what I’m learning on the homestead.
My Goal is Simple:
To help beginning homesteaders avoid common mistakes, gain confidence, and create a more self-sufficient life they love.
Whether you’re raising your first chickens, planting your first garden, or dreaming of owning land someday, you’re in the right place.
The great thing about Homesteading is everyone can do it their own way, what I have done may or may not fit your situation. That is perfectly fine — you can use some things and maybe not others. Also everyone has their own way of doing things, so if you don’t agree with what or how I teach there are a lot of people teaching homesteading so you can go find someone that aligns with your beliefs.
Lastly I am not a doctor or veterinarian, I just have years of experience from being around animals and treating them, so if you don’t feel comfortable with what I do, please consult a medical professional.

Why “Grandma’s Homesteading Help”?
I’m a mom, grandma, retired teacher, animal lover, gardener, and homesteader who still learns something new all the time.
I don’t believe homesteading has to be complicated or perfect. I want this site to feel a little like sitting down at Grandma’s kitchen table—asking questions, sharing stories, learning from mistakes, and figuring things out together. I’ll tell you what has worked for me, what hasn’t, and what I wish I had known before I started.
